SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – In just three years at Cal State San Bernardino, Audra Wise has graduated with a degree in biochemistry as a member of the campus’ inaugural group of Presidential Scholars.

Wise is the first from that class to receive her degree, and now is enrolled for the medical studies program at Loma Linda University School of Medicine for the fall.

Three years ago Cal State San Bernardino started a program for outstanding high school students who finish in the top one percent of their graduating class. Wise was in the top one percent of her graduating class at Hesperia’s Sultana High School.

There are currently 44 presidential scholars on campus, 19 of which major in the natural sciences. Wise plans to pursue her childhood goal of becoming a doctor.

The first two years of Wise’s scholarship were sponsored by the president’s office and the dean’s office at CSUSB, while the campus sought long-term funding. Dr. Premm Ready of the Desert Valley Hospital/ Medical Group then stepped in to sponsor Wise in her third and final year at CSUSB. Dr. Reddy was on hand at the commencement ceremonies to congratulate Wise.

The Presidential Scholarship program is designed to help young, local scholars realize their dreams and hopefully create future community leaders that will help make a difference in years to come.
