Media Inquiries

Four Wednesdays in July means four free concerts at Cal State San Bernardino this summer when the annual Summer Wednesdays music series returns.

Musical styles from Latin dance to classic rock ’n’ roll to rhythm and blues to jazz and more will be offered every Wednesday at 7 p.m. beginning July 5.

The concerts will take place at the Lower Commons patio area, and complimentary parking will be in Lot D.

The concerts will also be an opportunity for the community to donate to The DEN, CSUSB’s Food Pantry. The DEN (Delivering Emergency Nourishment) will accept non-perishable food items. Learn more abut The DEN at its website.

This summer’s concert lineup:

Latin Society, July 5
A favorite in the Inland Empire and Southern California, The Latin Society has one of the best Big Band Latin sounds (with tunes such as “Bamboleo,” “Oye Como Va,” and “Ran Kan Kan”). The 14-member group appeals to a wide audience and was named “Entertainer of the Year” by Hispanic Lifestyle Magazine. Its unique Latin flavor and horn section arrangements are sure to get you moving to the rhythms. For more information, visit the Latin Society Facebook page (search @LatinSocietyBand).

Hi Lyfe Band, July 12
The Hi Lyfe Band, which includes a Cal State San Bernardino staff member, will be performing jazz, blues and R&B for dancing and listening pleasure. The band plays tunes by artists such as Bill Withers (“Use Me”), Aretha Franklin (“Dr. Feel Good”), Chaka Khan (“Sweet Thing”), Anita Baker (“Same of Love”) and other R&B performers. Band members are Nachaka Davenport, lead vocals; James Plasencia, lead and rhythm guitar; Ernest Bowdry, keyboards; Charles Evans, bass; John Burcher, sax and flute; and Orlando (Big O) Reynolds, drums. Reynolds is a member of the CSUSB Special Events and Guest Services team whose second love is music; he says he is excited to be able to play for this year’s summer series.

Desperado, July 19
The Los Angeles-based Eagles tribute band Desperado is a collaboration of talented musicians who keep the legendary ’70s band’s music alive. With three fantastic vocalists, Desperado sounds like the real thing. The band’s love for the music, dedication to its authenticity, and quality of impersonation and performance has kept the Eagles’ sound fresh and fun. Fans everywhere can appreciate hits like “Hotel California,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” and “Witchy Woman.”

Renee Rojanaro and After Dark, July 26
Renee Rojanaro and her band After Dark are highly versatile musicians with a wide range of styles including jazz, dance, swing, blues, rock ’n’ roll, R&B, Motown, oldies, country, special themes and novelty music. Rojanaro’s voice is described as embodying the nostalgic sound of a speakeasy torch singer from the 1930s and ’40s, but she also sings today’s hits with a fresh and jazzy flair. Visit Renee Rojanaro’s website for more information.

Most performances will last approximately two hours, concluding by 9 p.m.

There will be concession stands, and concertgoers are welcome to bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs and blankets.
