C.E. Tapie Rohm (1947-2017)

Longtime Cal State San Bernardino faculty member C.E. “Tapie” Rohm Jr. died earlier today, Wednesday, June 21, after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Rohm, a professor emeritus of information and decision sciences, had recently retired after 36 years of service to the university.

Rohm’s service and dedication to the university were legendary. On June 17, he served as bearer of the mace for the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration Commencement ceremony at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

An internationally and nationally recognized educator, consultant, author, entrepreneur and businessman, Rohm had written 14 books, published 75 articles in professional, referred journals, presented more than 100 professional papers, and published more than 1,538 professional articles for others in 90 different issues of journals.

Earlier this month, family and friends celebrated Rohm’s 70th birthday and retirement by donating more than 400 non-perishable food items and more than $1,000 in donations to the university’s DEN Food Pantry.

He is survived by Karen, his wife of 43 years, eight children and 25 grandchildren.

He was honored by the California Inland Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver Award. He was chairman of the board of the Inland Chapter of the American Red Cross. Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Rohm served as a bishop and a member of a Stake Presidency among other callings.

The family has requested, in tribute to Rohm, for friends and colleagues to provide a kind act of service today in his memory.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 26, at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3860 N. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino. Family and friends will be in the Relief Society Room at 9 a.m. to pay their respects.
