SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – To honor military veterans past and present, Cal State San Bernardino will host a “Tribute to America and its Veterans” today, Tuesday, Nov. 10, with a drill team performance, choir, speakers, food, prizes and athletic competitions. The event will be held in the patio of the university’s Lower Commons from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cal State San Bernardino will be closed the following day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s Day. The celebration’s goal is to increase the overall national commitment to public service among students and faculty, while also creating a welcoming environment for U.S. veterans returning from military duty. The event’s guest speaker will be retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and motivational speaker Michael Daly, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom IV and received the Bronze Star Medal. Daly, who is currently assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Air Support Division, has served with the department for more than 26 years. The celebration also will include a drill team performance by the Sunburst Academy of Los Alamitos. The event also will have a tug of war, push-up competition along with food and refreshments. The event will also have a reunion of veterans from the 2nd Army, 185th Armor Division, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom IV.
