SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal State San Bernardino will highlight its international side in the coming weeks as it celebrates its commitment to working with students and faculty from abroad. International Education Weeks events are now being celebrated on the campus with lectures, concerts, panel discussions and workshops that are open to students, faculty, staff and the community. CSUSB's programs are part of the larger International Education Week, which will take place Nov. 16-20 at universities and colleges nationwide. The week, a joint initiative of the U.S. departments of State and Education, is aimed at promoting programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. "CSUSB has been enthusiastically expanding activities for International Education Week during the past 10 years," said Rosalie Giacchino-Baker, the faculty director of the International Institute at Cal State San Bernardino. "As our pool of on-campus and off-campus international experts continues to grow, we have organized events throughout the month of November," she said. "This helps us to showcase as many speakers as possible and to avoid scheduling conflicts." And the university does have a distinct international flavor. "Our on-campus speakers put the spotlight on our visiting scholars, international students and professors with international expertise," Giacchino-Baker said. "There are, for example, 16 visiting scholars currently in residence at CSUSB. These scholars, who come from six different countries (China, South Korea, Tunisia, Russia and Iraq), are being hosted by 11 departments representing all five CSUSB academic colleges. We have more than 500 international students on campus this fall, and many of them are active in international organizations." The scheduled events at Cal State San Bernardino include: Wednesday, Nov. 4 Thursday, Nov. 5 Thursday, Nov. 5 |
