SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Students interested in attending Cal State San Bernardino in 2010-2011 are encouraged to file their applications during the priority application period for fall 2010, which runs through Nov. 30, 2009. The application period opened on Oct. 1. In the past, CSUSB has accepted applications after the priority application period. However, because of severe reductions to the California State University budget, fewer students will be admitted during the coming year and the closing date for applications has not been determined. Those who apply during the Oct. 1-Nov. 30 priority application period stand a better opportunity to gain fall 2010 admission, provided they qualify and complete all of the necessary requirements for admission. Enormous state budget cuts have caused all campuses in the California State University system to decrease enrollment over the next two years. CSUSB is expected to cut enrollment by more than 2,000 students over that period. "The state budget crisis has made it crucial for students to apply to Cal State San Bernardino as soon as the priority application period opens," said Olivia Rosas, Cal State San Bernardino's director of admissions and student recruitment. "There's a place for eligible students here at CSUSB, but they need to apply on time, because there will be fewer openings next year at our university and at all of the CSU campuses." Interested high school seniors need to submit their applications by logging onto CSUMentor. CSUMentor is a Web-based system that helps students plan and apply to the CSU online. CSUMentor is designed to help students and their families learn about the CSU system, select a CSU campus, finance higher education, and apply for admission. The site offers technical support, course-check, and open and closed campus information. Failure to adhere to deadlines will result in students' admission cancellations. Students are strongly encouraged to take the entrance exams such as the SAT or ACT as well as placement tests such as the Entry Level Math exam (ELM) and the English Placement Test (EPT) as soon as possible to improve their chances of getting admitted to the university and know what classes they will take when they are enrolled. Students in need of assistance with their electronic applications may call for technical support at (800) GO-TO-XAP (or 800-468-6927). The service is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students with additional questions about applying to CSUSB can contact the university's office of admissions and student recruitment at (909) 537-5188.
