Cal State San Bernardino student named pre-doctoral scholar

Cal State San Bernardino student George Daly is among the 76 statewide Sally Casanova California Pre-Doctoral Scholars selected from more than 200 applicants. Daly, a senior majoring in geology and also a McNair Scholar, will visit doctoral-granting institutions, including UC Santa Barbara, University of Oregon, and possibly the University of Hawaii and United Kingdom institutions in Durham and Bristol to explore opportunities for doctoral study.
San Manuel to hold annual Pow Wow at Cal State San Bernardino

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will hold its annual Pow Wow at Cal State San Bernardino Oct. 10-12, featuring music, dancers, crafts, demonstrations of dance and making crafts and plenty of food. Known in their native language as the "Yuhaviatam," or "People of the Pines," the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians have held the annual event at CSUSB for the past seven years, dating to 1999.
Coyote Radio chosen as an official iTunes college station

Coyote Radio is the only campus station in the California State University system to be included in the iTunes lineup of 50 college stations from around the world. As a college station listed on iTunes, CSUSB joins universities such as Stanford, Penn State, Yale and Columbia University.
State Supreme Court to hold special outreach session at Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus

More than 2,000 high school and college students in Riverside County's Coachella Valley will see the California Supreme Court in action at a special public outreach session on Oct. 7-8 at the California State University, San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus.
Students encouraged to apply early for fall 2009

Students interested in attending Cal State San Bernardino in 2009-2010 are encouraged to apply during the priority application period, which runs through Nov. 30. Because of the state's current budget situation, California State University campuses will not receive additional enrollment funding from the state for the coming academic year.

Disabled athletes fit right in

Some were accomplished athletes and some were novices just learning for how to hold a tennis racket or shoot a basket. Some who attended came in wheelchairs. Others came with challenges harder to see, like autism and deafness. What brought them together at the Cal State San Bernardino's Disability Sports Festival on Saturday was a commitment to athleticism for everybody, including the disabled.

Getting jobs for students

Two months ago, Cal State San Bernardino's Career Development Center launched CoyoteLink, an online program that links students with potential employers. To date, more than 1,600 students and about 300 employers have used the program, said Pamela Abell, the university's employer relations coordinator. It is the second item in the news briefs column.

As part of a "big-picture" article on early admissions for first-time freshmen at the California State University, the newpaper reports that Cal State San Bernardino officials are encouraging prospective first-time freshmen to submit applications by Nov. 30 rather than waiting until March. The earlier someone can submit an application the earlier it will be reviewed and any problems caught, said Olivia Rosas, director of admissions and student recruitment at Cal State San Bernardino. Young Inland voters eager to cast their ballots

The "Speak On It" event at Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Oct. 2, was mentioned in an article about young people's interest in this year's presidential election. A CSUSB, several hundred students gathered Thursday night to watch the taping of a cable TV talk show that featured sparring between supporters of John McCain and Barak Obama. The newspaper also featured a photo gallery of that event.

Early voting in Inland area returns

Cal State San Bernardino will be one site that will allow voters to go to the polls early. Inland residents will again be able to vote prior to election day at malls, college campuses and other locations this month. Early birds can vote as soon as Monday at registrars' offices in both counties. Voting at malls and other public spots begins Oct. 18. Registered voters can cast ballots at any early polling place in their county.
