Transportation forum seeks to resolve traffic congestion and road mobility in Southern California

Transportation experts say local governments and taxpayers will save more in transportation costs by adding toll roads than carpool lanes, additional lanes or even light rail lines. Those were the conclusions of several speakers at the second annual forum hosted by Cal State San Bernardino's William and Barbara Leonard Transportation Center on May 2 at the Hilton Ontario Airport.
 
Model UN team continues tradition by earning 'Outstanding Delegation' for 12th time

Cal State San Bernardino's 2008 National Model United Nations team followed tradition by repeating as an Outstanding Delegation at the annual competition in New York in April. The recognition, the highest honor given to teams, gives CSUSB 12 such honors in the Model UN competition. This year, the team of 17 students represented the Republic of the Philippines.

Registration for summer 2008 classes at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus will begin on Wednesday, April 30. Summer session classes run in two six-week sessions from June 18 to July 24 and from July 28 to Sept. 3 and one 10-week session from July 18 to Aug. 28.

A multi-million dollar estate gift will benefit the top college-bound students from the Inland Empire and beyond with full scholarships at Cal State San Bernardino. A veteran Cal State San Bernardino professor and a new school in Montclair have something in common - both carry the name of David Stine. Stine, who is a professor emeritus in the university's College of Education and has served on the San Bernardino County Board of Education for more than 18 years, has a new school named after him after a recent unanimous vote by the county school board.

Cal State San Bernardino alumna Lois Carson has been selected the 2008 Woman of the Year in California's 62nd District by Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto). Carson, who has served as executive director of the Community Action Partnership of Riverside County since 1980, was recognized for her pioneering work in education and helping lower-income families improve their lives, according to Carter.

Playing before a sparse home crowd of 440 fans, the Coyotes scored the fewest points in the first half of any men's team in the history of the program, dating back to 1984-85 -16. Hardly something one would expect from a team that ended the regular season as CCAA co-champions. Fortunately, the Coyotes picked up the pace in the second half to force overtime against the Tritons.

Cal State San Bernardino's Vanessa Wilt, Shanae Blake and Leslie Pickron, each playing the final home games of their career, led the Coyotes with 10 points a piece. Wilt snared 14 rebounds, giving her 25 double-doubles in 28 games this season. CSUSB, the No. 3 team in the West Region, is now 21-7 in the season.

University judicial officer presides over student issues

Among the 40 writing luminaries who received a prized fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts this year was Kevin Moffett, an assistant professor of English at Cal State San Bernardino. Moffett, who was chosen from among some 800 writers across the country, received a $25,000 fellowship to pursue writing a novel he began two years ago.
