CSUSB launches inaugural ‘Coyote Cares Day’ April 27

     

Cal  State  San Bernardino will host its inaugural Coyote Cares Day – a day of volunteer service within the city of San Bernardino – on Saturday, April 27, as part of National Volunteer Week.

Coyote Cares DayBeginning at 8 a.m., CSUSB students, faculty, staff and alumni volunteers will gather to complete projects to benefit San Bernardino’s nonprofit organizations and community agencies as a way of thanking the community for its support of the university.

Coyote Cares Day will give students the opportunity to engage and develop an understanding of the nonprofit organizations that serve San Bernardino, including their role in providing services to the underserved and disadvantaged.

“Students will serve at a variety of organizations that need ongoing volunteer assistance,” said Diane Podolske, director of Community-University Partnerships at CSUSB.  “We have planned a fun and inspiring day for our students to encourage their commitment to service and to promote community pride in San Bernardino.”

More than 300 CSUSB students are expected to participate in environmental cleanup, beautification and restoration projects throughout the city of San Bernardino, providing more than 900 hours of volunteer service work.

  • Latino Health Collaborative
  • Boys & Girls Club – Waterman Gardens
  • Habitat for Humanity, San Bernardino Area, Inc.
  • The Salvation Army San Bernardino Corps’ Hospitality House Emergency Family Shelter
  • The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley
  • Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire
  • The Neighborhood Cluster Association of San Bernardino
  • Mustard Seed Tutorial Center
  • Saint John’s Community Success Center
  • Central City Lutheran Mission
  • Mary’s Mercy Center
  • SOAR Charter Academy
  • Arrowhead United Way
  • New Vision Middle School

Held from April 21-27, National Volunteer Week encourages individuals and their respective communities to take action and to be at the center of social change – discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to foster positive transformation. Sponsored by Points of Light, National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each subsequent year, with literally thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week.
