Fontana Herald News — Ninth-graders from various San Bernardino high schools, including Cajon and Arroyo Valley, recently got “bite of reality” when they attended an interactive financial education simulation designed to teach them how to manage money. And one of those providing them with a real-life experience of dealing with a pushy salesman was Patrick Huynh of Fontana.

The Cal State San Bernardino liberal studies student is also a tutor with GearUp (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs), a U.S. Department of Education program that provides federal funding for state and partnership grants to help increase the number of low-income middle and high school students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. He tutors at San Bernardino High School.

The March 23 Bite of Reality event held at Cal State San Bernardino was run by staff from San Bernardino-based Thinkwise Credit Union and GearUp employees, who all volunteered their time for the event. The ninth-graders are part of GearUp.
