RIVERSIDE: Sports events attract crowds, cash to town

The Press-Enterprise — Haakon Brown, who teaches sports marketing at Cal State San Bernardino, is quoted in an article about Riverside’s effort to promote the city through sports marketing.

With about 65 sports competitions and an estimated $9 million in economic impact under its belt in a year and a half, the Riverside Sports Commission appears to have done well — especially considering it’s staffed part time by one marketing employee and Debbi Guthrie, senior vice president of Raincross Hospitality Corp., which oversees conventions and tourism for the city.

The article was published April 23, 2014.
