The open enrollment period for the health insurance exchanges created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, commonly referred to as “Obamacare,” will begins today, Tuesday, Oct. 1.
On that date, individuals can apply and enroll in health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov.
In California, residents will be able to buy healthcare insurance through a new, easy-to-use marketplace called Covered California starting today, Tuesday, Oct.1.
Health coverage starts as early as Jan. 1, 2014, and open enrollment ends on March 31, 2014.
The healthcare website will have information to help individuals learn about types of health coverage, research their questions, and get ready to choose a health plan that gives individuals the right balance of costs and coverage. Individuals can also sign up for Marketplace updates.
A downloadable brochure is available online at “Get Ready to Enroll in the Marketplace.”
