Ecofest, a celebration of ideas, speakers and displays on the many facets of earth-friendly sustainable living, returns to the campus of Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 18.
The free, family-friendly day of fun and education will showcase solutions to the environmental issues that confront society, with the idea that one person can make a difference and that cooperation makes almost anything possible, especially when it’s good for the planet.
Ecofest will be from 2-10 p.m. in the university’s Lower Commons and surrounding areas, featuring live music, speakers, vendors, games, workshops, food and much more.
Among the interactive attractions at EcoFest will be:
Solar Powered Main Stage
The Main Stage will feature a sound system powered by solar panels. Live music and performers will give festival attendees plenty of reasons to feel great about the reduced carbon footprint.
A zip line will be installed for participants to sail through the air above EcoFest.
Participants will be able to create their own eco-themed arts and crafts projects at the Creation Station.
Water Refill Station
Participants can stay hydrated while at EcoFest at the water refill station. Participants can bring a reusable water bottle or buy one from the Green Marketplace and help keep plastic water bottles out of landfills.
The Green Marketplace will feature local and national companies that support sustainability. Pick up a bite to eat or a new outfit.
Healthy Living Space
The Healthy Living Space will feature alternative health and therapeutic modalities and resources. Participants can take a yoga class, learn to meditate or get a massage.
Participants can stop by the Eco-Zone for hands-on activities that teach about recycling, starting a garden, converting a home to solar power, composting and a range of other topics. The Eco-Info Zone is sponsored by the Power of a Green LA.
The Conscious Carnival showcases fun and interactive eco-themed games of chance. Participants will learn about recycling, alternative fuels and other environmental topics.
Active Minds Labyrinth
The CSUSB Active Minds student club will be building a labyrinth from recycled materials at EcoFest.
Toyota will display its energy-efficient vehicles. Visit the automaker’s trailer to learn more and participate in its fun and interactive activities.
The Big Monster
The creation of ChicoBag™, the Bag Monster®, shows the impact single-use plastic bags have on the environment. These flighty bags end up in trees, along with roadsides and washed up on beaches. The Bag Monster, which is the EcoFest mascot, is decked out with 500 plastic bags, the average amount an American uses in one year.
