The investiture of President Tomás D. Morales and six separate commencement ceremonies are all part of Cal State San Bernardino’s big graduation weekend from June 13-16 to end the 2012-2013 academic year.

The theme of the weekend is ”Transforming Lives and Communities Through Higher Education.”

Morales, who took over as president of CSUSB in August 2012, was formally invested as the university’s fourth president today, Friday, June 14, on campus at Coussoulis Arena. The ceremony highlights a full weekend of activities in which more than 3,400 students will be eligible to participate in graduation exercises.

For a majority of the participating graduates, it will be the first time many of their families have been to a college graduation as nearly 70 percent indicated they were the first in their family to earn a college degree. In June 2012, 56 percent of the graduates indicated they were the first in their family to graduate.

The university’s commencement activities began on Thursday, June 13, for students from CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus. The ceremony took place at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage.Commencement_Dec2012_DA2G9727

On Saturday, June 15, commencement takes place at the university’s Coussoulis Arena for the first of five ceremonies over two days. The first ceremony is the university’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, which will hold its undergraduate ceremony at 8:45 a.m.

For the second year in a row, CSUSB will hold a separate commencement ceremony for graduate students. Students from all five CSUSB academic colleges who will earn master’s and doctoral degrees will participate in their own ceremony at 12:45 p.m.

Cal State San Bernardino’s College of Arts and Letters will hold its graduation at 4:45 p.m. on June 15. Students earning bachelor’s degrees from the College of Education will participate in the College of Arts and Letters commencement.

Commencement ceremonies for CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, followed by the College of Natural Sciences graduation at 12:45 p.m.

All of the ceremonies at Cal State San Bernardino’s Coussoulis Arena will be webcast live at the CSUSB Academic Computing and Media Live WebCast page.
