The Press-Enterprise — An article about active shooter drills taking place on university campuses mentions that police Sgt. Robert Balderama is planning such a drill for Cal State San Bernardino that will probably take place in July. Before 2007, the school didn’t run such drills. Now they take place twice a year.
Area universities have been stepping up their training in recent years, running simulated attacks by rogue shooters. The drills are in response to mass shootings in schools and public places. The 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech, which killed 32 people, seems to have been the game-changing tragedy for most local universities.
The article was published May 3, 2013.
