A mental health and wellness fair will be held at Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center.
The focus of the fair is to provide students with resources and ways they can get help in times of need such as suicide prevention.
Discussion and awareness of the issue is important. Some statistics to note include:
- Suicide is the third leading cause of death for teens;
- Suicide is the second leading cause of death at colleges;
- For every suicide completion, there are between 50 and 200 attempts.
The event will feature a number of free activities that include a yoga class, meditation sessions, a journaling workshop and depression screenings. Short videos covering positive psychology, stress reduction and healthier living habits will also be screened.
Students can also practice their art skills with Zentangle or pet away stress with therapy dogs. Free fruit samples from the Coyote Produce Stand also will be available while supplies last.
