The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at CSUSB, with registration opening at 7 a.m. on the main lawn in front of the John M. Pfau Library. Registration is $35 and can be paid in person the day of the event. The race will begin at 9 a.m.

The Childhelp Merv Griffin Village has been dedicated to helping and treating severely abused, neglected and at-risk children since 1978. The village houses as many as 84 children ranging in age from 6 to 14 years, and provides education, psychotherapy, music, art, ranch and physical therapy, as well as swimming, a library, computer lab and more.

“In addition to supporting Prevent Child Abuse America, the Kappa Deltas choose to support the Childhelp Merv Griffin Village, because we believe it is important to support the prevention of child abuse in our local community as well as nationally,” said Ashley Gonzalez, CSUSB student and president of the Kappa Delta sorority. “We are so happy that we get to support such an amazing facility that is so close to our community.”

Childhelp is a place where children, regardless of what they have been through and why they are there, can become part of a positive experience. Each child that arrives at Childhelp is greeted by a team of mental health professionals who assess his or her needs and develops an individualized treatment plan, which incorporates activities and services that allow the children an opportunity to grow, heal and develop skills.

The staff of therapists, teachers, behavioral health specialists, nurses, physicians, case managers and a chaplain at Childhelp work to develop the whole child — restoring mind, body and spirit.

Childhelp works with critical community partners, including neighboring school districts, various county placement partners and the Southern California County Departments of Public Social Services.

Registration may be done the day of the race beginning at 7 a.m., or online at the Kappa Delta Shamrock 5K website.
