“Dancing with Our Stars” is a dance show with participation open to charities as a fundraising opportunity and also to amateur and pro/am couples as well. These couples, along with the charity dancers, participate for “Audience Choice” trophies in their respective categories.

The fundraiser was created by A Charity Affaire in 2006 to provide a multi-charity fundraising venue. Since then, the event has raised $330,000 for 70 different charities.

Oden’s dancing partner is CSUSB Palm Desert Campus nursing student Johanna Supple Cullip.

Oden has a long history of community and political involvement. After serving as a city council member for nine years, he was elected mayor of Palm Springs in November 2003. He has also been a candidate for the California State Assembly and the United States House of Representatives.

Oden has also focused on education, social and humanitarian issues. He has worked with Desert Career College, College of the Desert, Chapman University and Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus, and has served as pastoral care consultant at the Betty Ford Center.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in history, sociology and theology, and a master’s degree in theology and ethnic studies, with post-graduate courses in marriage, family and child counseling.

Dinner tickets cost $90 per person, which includes dinner and $20 towards vote donations for the charity of your choice.

Votes (without attending the event) can also be purchased for $20 per vote. Both can be purchased by check, made payable to CSUSB Philanthropic Foundation, and mailed to the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, 37-500 Cook St., Palm Desert, CA 92211; please indicate “DWOS” on the check.
