The Cal State San Bernardino Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center has been reaccredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care through November 2015.
Accreditation distinguishes the student health center from other outpatient facilities by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.
Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors, including physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
The staff of board certified physicians, pharmacists, licensed mental health counselors, professional nurses, health education team, peer health educators and friendly support staff are available to help CSUSB students achieve their health care goals, the AAAHC said.
Health issues are a major reason students drop out of college, and the health center’s services play a key role in the retention and academic success of students, the accreditation association said.
Low-cost lab and X-ray services are available and many students take advantage of the on-site pharmacy, where they can fill their prescriptions at a low cost and also take care of their over-the-counter medication needs, the survey found.
The Psychological Counseling Center is also accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services. These independent organizations place their seal of approval on medical and counseling facilities that meet the highest standards of quality.
In addition to university student health centers, AAAHC accredits a variety of organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, endoscopy centers, military health care clinics and large medical and dental practices. AAAHC serves as an advocate for the provision of high-quality health care through the development of nationally recognized standards and through its survey and accreditation programs.
AAAHC accreditation is recognized as a symbol of quality by third-party payers, medical organizations, liability insurance companies, state and federal agencies and the public.
