The Desert Sun — More residents of Riverside County are skipping out on higher education than their state peers, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Only 20.6 percent of residents in the county ages 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to a state rate of 30.2 percent, according to the American Community Survey the bureau released.
“We need to recruit more students into higher education and keep them in the valley,” Fred Jandt, dean of California State University, San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus, said in an e-mail.
It’s one of the reasons that Cal State San Bernardino will admit 100 freshmen to its Palm Desert Campus in September of next year.
