Fremont replaces Larry Sharp, who announced earlier in the summer that he would be stepping down from the vice president’s position this fall.

“Cal State San Bernardino epitomizes everything that is right with public higher education,” Fremont said. “It’s a jewel in the community that transforms lives every day. I am honored to have been chosen and look forward to working with a dedicated and talented team in university advancement.”

Fremont, of Chino Hills, joins CSUSB from Cal Poly Pomona, where he has served in a variety of advancement positions since 1988. He has been associate vice president for university relations there since 2003, managing the resources and services that have helped Cal Poly Pomona communicate with its various stakeholder groups.

At Cal Poly, Fremont worked closely with university President Michael Ortiz on numerous campus-wide initiatives, including advocacy, governmental relations and community relations. He also was a member of the university’s strategic planning committee and the alumni association board of directors.

“I’m very pleased that Ron will be joining us at Cal State San Bernardino, and I look forward to the leadership and guidance he will provide as we embark on our upcoming 50th anniversary campaign,” said Morales. “Ron is an experienced and award-winning leader in strategic and campaign communication, advancement administration, publications and media relations, as well as public, community, alumni and governmental affairs. He also is well versed in the development and successful implementation of a comprehensive campaign.”

Fremont was a major part of the planning and development of Cal Poly’s 75th anniversary celebration, which begins in the fall of 2013. He also is credited with developing the strategy that brought the university several major donor gifts.

“Ron and his family live in San Bernardino County and he is very familiar with the Inland Empire, as well as the many challenges and opportunities facing the CSU and Cal State San Bernardino,” Morales said. “I think he’ll be a tremendous fit for the university.”

Prior to his position as associate vice president for university relations at Cal Poly Pomona, he was executive director for university communication and director of public affairs. He also served as the university’s assistant director of intercollegiate athletics. Fremont also worked in sports information positions at Cal State Fullerton and UCLA.

With more than 60 regional and national professional awards to his credit, Fremont earned his bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA, his master’s degree in education from Cal Poly Pomona and his doctor of education degree from the University of La Verne.
