More than 300 high school and community college students and counselors are expected to attend the annual open house hosted by Cal State San Bernardino’s School of Computer Science and Engineering.
The event will focus on technology-based programs at CSUSB. Participants will be provided with information on programs ranging from robotics, computer vision, creation of smart phone applications, computer games and computer graphics to mathematical games and encryption, as well as on the history of computers.
The open house, which is free and open to the public, will begin with orientation from 9-9:45 a.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center, followed by presentations by Cal State San Bernardino faculty in Jack Brown Hall rooms 356, 358, 359, 360 and 390.
Kerstin Voigt, director of CSUSB’s School of Computer Science and Engineering, said prospective Cal State San Bernardino students will have the opportunity to meet with department faculty and students in a relaxed atmosphere, with the opportunity to win prizes in computer-related competitions. Lunch will be provided.
During the open house, 11 faculty members from the school will make presentations about projects that are representative of the various computer science and engineering sub-disciplines, skills and techniques that students would be exposed to during their studies at Cal State San Bernardino.
In addition, officials from the university’s Office of Admissions and Student Recruitment, the Computer Science and Engineering Student Club and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) student chapter will make presentations.
Among those schools expected to participate are Arroyo Valley High School, Barstow High School, Cajon High School, Eisenhower High School, Grove High School, Moreno Valley High School, Rancho Verde High School, Rialto High School, San Bernardino High School, Chaffey Community College and San Bernardino Valley College.
