In his first official speech to the greater campus community as president of Cal State San Bernardino, Tomás D. Morales will officially launch the new academic year with his first Convocation address for faculty and staff on Friday, Sept. 14.
Morales took over as president on Aug. 15 from Albert K. Karnig, who retired last month. Morales, who is the university’s fourth president since its opening in 1965, will address Cal State San Bernardino’s opportunities and challenges for the coming year.
Fall classes start the following week on Sept. 20.
In addition, special recognition will be given to faculty and staff, including the presentation of Employee of the Year awards.
The program also will feature a video highlighting many of the past year’s student, faculty and staff accomplishments.
The Convocation will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center.
There will be an informal reception beginning at 8 a.m. in the foyer outside the Events Center.
Morales will be available to speak with media individually after the presentation (at about 10:15 a.m.).
