The Sun — In an editorial: “The tuition hike that’s up for discussion by California State University officials this week is being called a contingency plan. “A contingency plan” sounds so much nicer than ‘extortion.’
“Already, voters are justifiably uncomfortable with the threatening tone of the campaign in favor of Proposition 30, the November ballot measure that calls for temporary increases in sales taxes and income taxes on high earners to help balance the state budget.
“The campaign’s message is: Vote for Gov. Jerry Brown’s initiative – or else. If the public rejects it, there will be automatic cuts in state funding for various programs and services. This would include cuts in funding for the CSU and University of California systems.”
The editorial was published Sept. 17, 2012.
