Sam Ash Music Stores and Coyote Radio to bring local music competition to CSUSB next week

Sam Ash Music Stores and Coyote Radio have joined together to present The Coyote Radio Music Awards, which will include five bands and artists competing for prizes and the chance to perform at the closing night of Cal State San Bernardino’s Summer Wednesdays concert series.

The Cal State San Bernardino campus radio station is hosting a contest during June and July, when CSUSB students will select the greatest local unsigned band or artist. Students will choose from five finalists from San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

On Aug, 8, the winner of the competition will perform at an award presentation and concert, which will be the culminating concert of the Cal State San Bernardino free Summer Wednesdays series, now in its 28th year.

The finalists in the competition are: Shoppy (from Riverside), The Paper Crowns (from Devore), 200 West (from Rancho Cucamonga), Dose of Adolescence (from Rancho Cucamonga) and Kara Aubrey (from Palm Desert). Finalists and winners will be chosen based on their degree of musical talent, professionalism, showmanship and entertainment value.

The concert’s premier sponsor is Sam Ash Music Stores, with more than 40 locations in the U.S. The winner will receive various prizes, including $500 in cash and a Zoom Digital Recorder H4N, both provided by Sam Ash President Paul Ash.

Lacey Kendall, Coyote Radio station manager, said the winner will also receive “the beautiful chrome ‘Howlin’ Yote’ trophy and all of the swagger that comes with being the best!”

The show will be broadcast on Coyote Radio, and on various television outlets including: Time Warner Cable, Charter Communication Cable, Verizon Fios and AT&T U-verse-Inland Empire, via the Inland Empire Media Group. It will run multiple times in August and September.

Marketing and publicity for the event is being handled by Coyote Advertising. Additional sponsors for the show and broadcasts include CSUSB academic computing and media, Coussoulis Arena, the Coyote Coupon Club, ACM Productions and Cal State San Bernardino’s student leadership and development department.

The Cal State San Bernardino Summer Wednesdays concert series begins July 11 and runs every Wednesday through Aug. 8.
