Esser is currently a junior in the campus’s nursing program, where he has received honors every quarter. He works part-time as a nursing assistant at Eisenhower Medical Center and volunteers at the Monterey Palms Skilled Nursing facility in Palm Desert, where he participates in events and provides computer classes to residents.

“I am grateful to be selected to receive this honor,” said Esser. “Nursing is an amazing field with a wide variety of sub-specialties. I plan to start in med-surgical with telemetry, and eventually move into the ICU, before pursuing an advanced degree. I am very excited for the future!”

“Our foundation has a long history of awarding nursing scholarships and believe this to be a compassionate profession,” said Nancy Harris, president of the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation. “All of the students who receive these scholarship funds are so deserving and so important to our healthcare society. I always look forward to meeting the recipients personally and admire their devotion to this career.”

The Coeta and Donald Barker Scholarship awards scholarships to nursing students who attend the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus. It has a minimum 3.0 GPA and financial need requirement.
