Daniels comes to CSUSB from Texas Tech University, where she worked as special assistant to the dean for pre-med pipeline programs and was director of the Borderland Area Health Education Center. Her involvement in military life as well as work with student organizations will allow her to ensure the advancement of the Veterans’ Success Center.

“When the job opportunity became open I knew, well that’s for me,” said Daniels. “It’s my mission, it’s more than a job; it’s a cause I believe in. There’s a different commitment level when it’s something you believe in.”

As coordinator, Daniels’ job is to make sure the CSUSB Veterans’ Success Center provides the necessary services and resources for student veterans, such as tutoring, psychological counseling, career services and support. The Veterans’ Success Center will also serve as a place to assist in the transition from military to academic life.

“As a veteran and the spouse of a career soldier, I know firsthand how important these programs and services are for service members returning to civilian and academic life,” Daniels said.

Many veterans are coming home from oversees with both mental and physical disabilities, and the center will provide the necessary services for extra support in their new role as students.

One of Daniels’ goals for the center is to bring awareness to the campus and to help incorporate veterans’ issues into the way the campus is run. Even without the opening of the center, she has already worked to bring in donations for it and has been working with the local Veteran Affairs Office.

“She has a lot of experience working with student veterans and soldiers and working in the community with community groups – either getting donations or raising awareness,” said Helga Kray, associate vice president for student affairs.  Kray said the center is very fortunate to have someone like Daniels relocate to California and join CSUSB in this new project.

The Veterans’ Success Center, located in the basement of the CSUSB Bookstore, will hold its grand opening on May 25, once furnishing and remodeling is complete.
