Four students have been selected as recipients of this year’s Rose Brown Scholarship at Cal State San Bernardino.
Created specifically to assist widows and single parents raising children alone, the scholarship was established in 2000 by Jack H. Brown, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Stater Bros. Supermarkets and the namesake of Jack Brown Hall at CSUSB, as a tribute to his mother, Rose Brown, who passed away last year at the age of 91.

These scholarships encourage students to follow in the footsteps of Rose Brown by “never giving up” and following their dreams of a college degree.
The recipients are Angela Amlani, Gina Florez, Janelle Nunez and Jennifer Sanchez. Each received a $1,500 scholarship.
Amlani, of Victorville, is a senior majoring in nursing with plans to graduate in December 2012. She is a single mother raising two sons, ages 2 and 10.
Florez, of Beaumont, is a psychology major and plans to graduate in 2013. She is a single parent raising a 17-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter.
Nunez, also of Beaumont, will obtain her bachelor’s in nursing in June 2013 and plans to continue her education to become a physician assistant. She is a single mother raising a 3-year-old daughter.
Sanchez, of San Bernardino, will graduate this June with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Sanchez is raising a 3-year-old son with special needs.
Jack Brown recently augmented the Rose Brown scholarship fund by more than $100,000.
Since its inception in 2000, more than $60,000 in scholarships has been awarded to 62 students. Until now, five $1,000 scholarships were awarded annually to Cal State San Bernardino students who met the eligibility requirements of the scholarship. This year, the scholarship amount increased to $1,500.
