Cal State San Bernardino kinesiology professor Terry Rizzo has been elected to the national board of directors of the American Kinesiology Association.
Rizzo, who chairs the university’s kinesiology department, began his three-year term on Jan. 1.
The American Kinesiology Association promotes and enhances kinesiology as a unified field of study and advances its many applications.
Rizzo is the editor of the Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, an international scholarly journal related to physical activity. It is the official journal of the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity. In addition to journal responsibilities he is past president of the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Since joining CSUSB in 1995, Rizzo has earned numerous professional awards, including the university’s prestigious Outstanding Professor Award and Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching. He has served as a faculty mentor to student leaders and graduates of Cal State San Bernardino’s McNair Scholars Program, which prepares students from under-represented groups for advanced academic opportunities.
Rizzo will be officially sworn in at the American Kinesiology Association’s annual board meeting in Dallas, Texas, in late January. He’ll join fellow new board members Michael Bemben, University of Oklahoma; Jason Carter, Michigan Technological University; Michael Delp, University of Florida; and Duane Knudson, Texas State University.
